Mythology

Like The Hermit card, The World card is represented by Chronos, the god of time. While in The Hermit card time brings patience, in The World card Chronos, who is bound beneath the earth and connected to the material world, represents the laws of time and decay. He measures the time and seasons and symbolizes the cycle of sowing, sprouting, blooming, fruit, withering, and decay—a cycle of life, completion, and new beginnings.

Representation of the Card in a Reading

The card represents the missing link. In The Judgement card, the person reaches enlightenment; so why is there another card in the Major Arcana? After enlightenment, The Fool leaps into the abyss. He does not crash at the bottom but loses his physical form and becomes an energetic entity. To maintain enlightenment, one must start The Fool’s journey anew. Writing one book can be a metaphor for enlightenment, but to remain enlightened, one must continue to write and develop. The goal has been achieved, the book is written; a person, or a writer, who does not continue to write and evolve will lose their acclaim. Development can be progress within the same field or the beginning of something new. This is a card of complete successes and closing circles.
It is important to remember that this is a Major Arcana card, representing the realm of the spirit. The querent’s soul is in a place of completion, a place of enlightenment. To manifest this card, the person must start the process anew and continue to grow within it.
